Sports-related cardiac arrest
Sports-related cardiac arrest
Cardiac arrest during sport activities is very infrequent.
According to a recently published study it is estimated to occur in 1.2 per 100000 people per year.
It is demonstrated in the study that sports-related cardiac arrest is associated with a rather high survival rate (52%), especially in the presence of on-site resuscitation equipment.
This definitely demonstrates the importance of having resuscitation equipment in sporting facilities, especially a defibrillator and also adequately trained personnel with a structured emergency response plan.
