Comparison between atorvastatin and rosuvastatin

Comparison between atorvastatin and rosuvastatin
The statins are very effective in reducing cardiovascular events, both as primary and secondary prevention.
According to the literature, the two most potent statins are atorvastatin and rosuvastatin.
A recent study attempted to compare these two pharmaceutical agents, through a very large database.
It appears that rosuvastatin is associated with lower risks for the secondary outcomes of major adverse cardiovascular events and major adverse liver outcomes. However, it is demosntrated that rosuvastatin, compared to atorvastatin, is linked to a higher incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
These evidence should be taken into account in daily clinical practice for the selection of the most appropriate statin.
